Overnight accommodation is provided in the main building on the property which dates from the 12th Century. Here you will find four carefully restored suites, each with an en suite bathroom.
In the restoration we have employed the skills of local master craftspeople and used only the best local materials. Our high quality linen comes from a family that has been weaving traditional Tuscan fabric since 1847. Frette Marino wool blankets adorn the beds. Even our luxurious mattresses are hand made by artisans using anti-allergy cotton and wool from sheep who graze in the nearby Casentino Mountains.
The suites have been furnished with traditional Tuscan antiques and each one features a touch of contemporary Italian design. All have private entrances.
Telephone and high speed internet are available in all the rooms.
Each suite accommodates two people. Two of the suites offer guests the choice of two separate single beds or one king. Please make sure to let us know if you require two separate beds in your room.
If you’re staying with us we offer customized programs including cooking classes, farm tours and tastings. Click here for information on courses and here for guided tours.
The Rooms
GELSO
So named because of its proximity to the ancient gelsi or mulberry trees that once provided Petraia with silk. The irony is that our most luxurious suite was fashioned from former stalls for goats and sheep. Gelso has a private entrance off the stone piazza that is the heart of Petraia, an elegant entrance hall and a spacious bedroom with an en suite bathroom. Available with a king bed or twin single beds upon request.
FORNO
This two room suite has a private entrance and a small stone terrace with an expansive view of Petraia's vineyards and of Siena in the distance. The sitting room still contains a wood oven or forno in which the farm's daily bread used to be baked. The bedroom with en suite bathroom was once a legnaia or wood storage room. Available with a queen bed only.
PIAZZA
The warmth of an oak and chestnut ceiling, an 18th century armoire and a contemporary handmade wrought iron bed in this former laundry room make it the coziest of Petraia's suites. A Tom Dixon ‘S’ Chair and Contardi lighting add a light contemporary feel to Piazza. The en suite bathroom is our largest, equipped with a claw-foot tub and antique fixtures. Available with a queen bed only.
LAVANDA
Find your way past the library and a small cantina housing stores of wine, honey and other Petraia products to the only suite with a private internal entrance. From Lavanda you'll enjoy the best view of the medieval village of Radda perched atop a wooded hill ten kilometers away. In the wall that divides the bedroom from the en suite bathroom a lintel over the door dates back to the 1100's, the most definitive evidence so far of Petraia's venerable age. Available with a king bed or twin single beds upon request.
